Team Long Island is an honorary team much like First Team All-Long Island, except that it is put together to play in one event every year - the legendary NIKE IS8 Tournament in New York City. IS8 has hosted just about every great basketball player from the New York City Metropolitan Area over the last 50 years, and a long list of great out of state players too, from Lebron James on down. The team is sponsored by, and the roster hand picked by LongIslandBasketball.com, who created the team to showcase Long Island's best basketball players at the highest level, and to demonstrate to the basketball community that Long Island's best can play with anybody! We've successfully done that, establishing ourselves as perennial contenders at IS8 by advancing out of pool play and into the championship round for 17 straight tournaments, reaching two Final Fours and one Championship Game playing against teams with multiple future NCAA Division 1 players on their rosters. Invitations are send out February 1st to a small handful of players, and if necessary, tryouts are held right after the conclusion of the high school season.
We want to thank all of the school and travel team coaches for their help putting this team together, not only for recommending players to us, but also for working with us to coordinate schedules so that players can participate with minimal conflicts.
